Choosing an Arbitrator

August 14th, 2008

Opting for arbitration rather than litigation can save you a lot of time, money and headaches. However, in order to make sure the process goes as smoothly as possible, it’s important to choose a skilled and experienced arbitrator whom you can trust.

Follow these tips when selecting an arbitrator:
  • Choose an arbitrator who is both impartial to and independent of all involved parties.
  • Choose an arbitrator who is best-suited to the dispute (one who has experience with your type of dispute).
  • Choose an arbitrator who can address the needs of the involved parties.
When selecting an arbitrator, remember that the involved parties can either agree upon the person whom they want to be the arbitrator, or they can ask an impartial third party to select an arbitrator.
